The Magic Flute – Impempe Yomlingo

Overview

The Fugard Theatre opened its doors on 12th February with a gala presentation of Mozart’s The Magic Flute – Impempe Yomlingo. A string of local dignitaries including Kgalema Motlantle, and the theatre’s patron, Trevor Manuel were present. Theatre personalities such as David Kramer, Janice Honeyman, Pieter-Dirk Uys and Mike van Graan followed suit. Athol Fugard officially opened the theatre. The Magic Flute – Impempe Yomlingo was a scintillating fairy tale, comedy, and drama entwined with African myth to one of the best-loved operas in history. By reimagining the classic tale and finding a new context for Mozart’s The Magic Flute within a South African setting. Isango Portobello Theatre Company performed The Magic Flute in repertoire with the The Mysteries – Yiimimangaliso.
