The award-winning stage play and subsequent film, Driving Miss Daisy, ran at the Fugard Theatre from the 23rd of March to the 1st of April; it was translated into Afrikaans and ran with English subtitles.
Sandra Prinsloo and John Kani, supported by Jacques Bessinger, performed the lead roles as the elderly Miss Daisy and Hoke. Miss Daisy is initially reluctant when her son appoints Hoke as her chauffeur after she writes off her car. A special bond gradually unfolds as Hoke and Daisy develop a friendship despite racial boundaries and social standings.
