Hemelruim, directed by Nico Scheepers, lit up the festival circuit in 2017 with rave reviews and best actress awards at Aardklop and the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) for Tinarie van Wyk Loots – as well as a 2016 Fiesta award. The acclaimed production came to The Fugard Theatre Studio for a limited run from 25 April to 20 May 2017.
It featured Paul du Toit and Van Wyk Loots and was translated by director Nico Scheepers. The work was performed in Afrikaans with English surtitles. It was a translation of the Broadway/West End hit Constellations by Nick Payne, which won the 2012 Evening Standard Award for best new production.
The play is a beautiful story of two souls who keep drifting in and out of each others’ lives in an honest, raw and moving journey through the stars filled with love, science and honey.
