A tale of two thieves, the comedy-drama Bench took to the stage at the Fugard Theatre Studio for a short run and opened in August 2013. Penned by the seasoned actor and playwright Brent Palmer, the show, nominated for a Fleur du Cap, uses sharp, vibrant, and surprisingly human conversation to tell the story of small-time criminals planning their big break from a bench in the Company Gardens. The plot follows the antics and interactions of Dwain (played by Adrian Collins) and Hendry (portrayed by Brent Palmer). At the same time, they reminisce on days gone by and strategise their next scam, a job they both believe will make them wildly wealthy.
