Zolani Mahola, the lead vocalist for the band Freshlyground, will be appearing in her first theatre reading for a play written for her by a French writer, Eudes Panel.
The play is set in a southern country and expresses a feminine, brave and humane perspective on the challenges faced by the health system. It focuses on HIV/Aids and the “civil” diseases attached to it, i.e. political cowardice, social stigmatization, fear, beliefs and ignorance. The play also explores the male dominance of the world and invites us to think different about the only other alternative, which is feminine. Mr. Panel continuously reminds us of the constant possibility of forgiveness, love and the gift of life. The style of writing in its candor is reminiscent of the great American writer Phillip Roth.
