Same Time Next Year tells the story of two people, both married to others, who meet by chance at a country inn, have an affair, fall in love and then agree to meet once a year at the same time at the same place. The play by Bernard Slade has delicious wit, compassion, poignancy, a sense of humor and a feel for nostalgia. A genuinely romantic story, the plot follows the love affair of Doris and George who meet once a year and are in fact the loves of each other's lives.  Twenty-five years of manners and morals are hilariously and touchingly played out by Paul Du Toit (Binnelanders, The Rocky Horror Show) and Julie Hartley (Noises Off, Lipstick Dipstiek).  Christopher Weare (The Mechanicals) directs these two seasoned actors in this funny story of emotional intimacy against the background of social changes in the years 1951 to 1975.

One of the most popular romantic comedies of the century, Same Time Next Year ran for four years on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for lead actress Ellen Burstyn. It remains one of the world's most widely produced plays.

As a fitting finale to a national Women’s Month tour, covering the Garden Route, Eastern Cape, Gauteng and North West, and including performing at the Waterfront Amphitheatre in Cape Town on Women’s Day, female instrumental pop group Sterling EQ (Electric Quartet) brought their musical talent home to Cape Town for a one-night celebration of feminine power.

Having received MTN South African Music Award (SAMA) nominations for all of their albums, including their debut album Nova (2009), and Sterling speel Afrikaans (2011), they are only the second all-girl band to have won a coveted SAMA in the past 8 years, winning the Best Jazz / Instrumental / Popular Classical DVD category, for their Sterling EQ Live in Concert, Cape Town DVD, released in 2010.

Eric Abraham presents a Fugard Theatre production (and South African premiere) of Shakespeare in Love from 10 October 2017 at the Fugard Theatre. Written by Lee Hall and adapted from the Academy Award-winning (1999) screenplay by Tom Stoppard and Marc Norman, the comedy ran for an extended sold out season at the West End's Noel Coward Theatre in London in 2014.

This South African premiere features 20 actors, and a dog, and is directed by the Fugard Theatre’s resident director Greg Karvellas (The Father, Clybourne Park, Bad Jews, CHAMP).

Young Will Shakespeare has writer's block ... the deadline for his new play is fast approaching but he is in desperate need of inspiration. That is, until he finds his muse – Viola. This beautiful young woman is Will’s greatest admirer and will stop at nothing (including breaking the law) to appear in his next play. Against a bustling background of mistaken identity, ruthless scheming and backstage theatrics, Will’s love for Viola quickly blossoms and inspires him to write his greatest masterpiece.

Shakespeare in Love features Dylan Edy (New Boy, Hamlet, Origins) as Will Shakespeare; Roxane Hayward (Blood Drive, Saints and Strangers) as Viola de Lesseps and includes Cape Talk’s John Maytham as Fennyman.

Multiple award-winner Robyn Scott (London Road, Elizabeth - Almost By Chance a Woman) stars as Queen Elizabeth and Jason K. Ralph (The Phantom of the Opera (World Tour), Chicago) as Lord Wessex; Lamar Bonhomme (Cheers to Sarajevo, Tshihumbudzo) as Robin; Bianca Flanders (District Six – Kanala, Orpheus in Africa) as Mistress Quickly; Theo Landey (The Play That Goes Wrong; The History Boys) as Marlowe; Nicholas Pauling (The Father, A Steady Rain, Clybourne Park) as Ned Allen; Sven Ruygrok (The Mother, Epstein, Spud) as Sam and Mark Elderkin (Twelfth Night, CHAMP) as Burbage.

Completing the ensemble are Lucy Tops (Funny Girl, The Rocky Horror Show, Bar None) as Nurse; Nathan Lynn (Raiders: The Musical, Pride and Prejudice) as John Webster; Louis Viljoen (The Play That Goes Wrong, The Frontiersmen) as Mr Wabash; Darron Araujo (Champ, The Taming of the Shrew) as Henslowe; Adrian Collins (Bench, King Lear) as Ralph; Sizo Mahlangu (Otello) as Lambert; Walter van Dyk (Arms and the Man [Watford Palace Theatre UK], A Flea in her Ear [Old Vic Theatre] UK) as Tilney; Andrew Roux (Wit, Macbeth) as Nol and Rachel Mertens.

Set Design is by Paul Wills (King Kong, A Human Being Died That Night), Costume Design by Birrie Le Roux (King Kong, Funny Girl, West Side Story) with Lighting Design by Wolf Britz (Die Seemeeu; Wie's Bang vir Virginia Woolf?), Sound Design by David Classen (District Six Kanala) with Resident Musical Director of the Fugard Theatre Charl Johan Lingenfelder (West Side Story, King Kong, Funny Girl, Cabaret) and Choreography by Kristin Wilson (Salome, Midsummer Night’s Dream).

Shakespeare in Love has a recommended age restriction of 13 years or older.

Set in an exclusive boarding school, four pupils discover an illicit copy of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and start acting it out. Perceptions and understandings are turned upside down. As the fun of play-acting turns serious and the words and meanings begin to hit home, universal truths emerge.

Told entirely through Shakespeare’s language, Shakespeare’s R&J is both the story of Romeo and Juliet and the journey of four young men who, during the course of one thrilling night, discover the power of theatre and the new worlds it can open up. The cast includes Rory Acton-Burnell, Marcel Meyer, Alistair Moulton Black and James MacGregor.

Shakespeare’s R&J holds the distinction of being the longest running version of Romeo & Juliet in New York, having run for over a year. It has also been staged with great success across the globe in the UK, the USA, Australia, the Netherlands and Japan.

Popular Jazz songstress, Amanda Tiffin and internationally acclaimed saxophonist, Shannon Mowday joined forces for the first time for two concerts in Cape Town.

The collaboration was born out of many a conversation between the two Cape Town jazz women who share common experiences in a very male-dominated genre. The idea to join forces was the result of a particularly intense discussion on a plane back from Grahamstown last year. “We had been lamenting the difficulties and complexities of finding the right combination of musical abilities and personalities in one’s band, when Shannon suggested we try collaborating, using favourite musicians from each of our various spheres,” said Tiffin.

Mowday, who was the Standard Bank Young Artists Award winner for Jazz in 2007, is one of the most diverse and sought after performers and recording artists to have emerged out of South Africa. She has been living in Norway for the past couple of years, studying towards her Masters Degree, and working extensively with musicians there. She draws from many influences with seemingly boundless energy and brings it together with purpose and style. Many music critics have applauded her gift of blending jazz with an eclectic mix of African rhythms and folklore. Her music expresses the difficulties and growth of her homeland with a totally honest and fresh approach which is difficult to put in any one genre.

Tiffin is no stranger to Cape Town audiences. She was recently seen with quirky a cappella group Not the Midnight Mass in their show Hot Cross Nuns, which received rave reviews. She has also become a firm favourite with Jazz lovers, both locally and abroad and has been a regular feature on the jazz club circuit in Japan over the last few years.

The two guests from Norway and Sweden are members of Mowday’s current trio. Bass player and composer, Putte Johander lives on the most western situated island in Sweden, "Nordkoster", close to the Norwegian border. He has collaborated with musicians from all over the world and has a great interest in African music, playing in projects with musicians from South Africa, Mali, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. He also runs his own record label, Parallel.

Erik Nylander is a sought-after drummer in Europe. He was born in Sweden and moved to Norway to study, and is now based in Oslo where he works as a freelance musician for several international projects, including Mowday’s trio.
